HOME > Technical Know-How > Bearing ABC > Type and features of Rolling Bearing
Rolling bearing (hereinafter called Bearing) comprises the raceway, rolling element and cage (retainer) and is categorized into radial bearing and thrust bearing depending on direction of load imposed, and it¡¯s also classified into ball bearing and roller bearing depending on type of rolling element, and is further classified by shape or particular use. Names of the parts of the typical bearings are illustrated in Fig 1.1 and the types of normal rolling bearing are described in Fig 1.2.

The rolling bearing, compared with the sliding bearing, has the following features.
(1) Less starting friction and few differences with dynamic friction.
(2) Globally standardized and compatible and replaceable.
(3) A simple surrounding structure for easy repair and inspection.
(4) Generally longitudinal and axial load can be accommodated simultaneously.
(5) Adaptable to high and low temperature.
(6) To enhance the rigidity, it can be used at the clearance (preload) status. Each type of rolling bearing has its own characteristics. The features are described in A10~A13 and Chart 1.1(A14~A15)
